The Oroqens are a race of dancers and singers. Men, women and children often gather to sing and dance when the hunters return with their game or at festival China vacation deals times.

With a rich and varied repertory of folk songs, the Oroqens sing praises of nature and love, hunting and struggles in life in a lively rhythm. Among the most popular Oroqen dances are the "Black Bears Fight" and "Wood Cock Dance," at which the dancers execute movements like those of animals and birds. Also popular is a ritual in which members of a clan gather to perform dances depicting events in clan history.

"Pengnuhua" (a kind of harmonica) and "Wentuwen" (hand drum) are among the traditional instruments used. Played by Oroqen musicians, these instruments produce tunes that sound like the twittering of birds or the braying of deer. These instruments are sometimes used to lure wild beasts to within shooting range.

The Oroqens have many tales, fables, legends, proverbs and riddles that have been handed down from generation to generation.

Being Shamanists or animists, the Oroqens worship nature and their ancestors, and believe in the omnipresence of spirits. Their objects of worship are carefully kept in birch-bark boxes hung high on trees behind their tents.

The Oroqens have a long list of don'ts. For instance, they never call the tiger by its actual name but just "long tail," and the bear "granddad." Bears killed are generally honored with a series of ceremonies; their bones are wrapped in straw placed high on trees and offerings are made for the souls of dead bears. Oroqens do not work out their hunting plans in advance, because they believe that the shoulder blades of wild beasts have the power to see through a plan when one is made.

Wind burials are practiced by the Oroqens Student tours to China. When a person dies his corpse is put into a hollowed-out tree trunk and placed with head pointing south on two-meter high supports in the forest. Sometimes the horse of the deceased is killed to accompany the departing soul to netherworld. Only the bodies of young people who die of contagious diseases are cremated.

Monogamy is practiced by the Oroqens who are only permitted to marry with people outside their own clans. Proposals for marriage as a rule are made by go-betweens, sent to girls' families by boys' families.

The Oroqens originally peopled the region north of the Heilong River and south of the Outer Hinggan Mountains. But aggression and pillaging conducted by Tsarist Russia after the mid-17th century forced the Oroqens to migrate to the Greater and Lesser Hinggan Mountains. There were then seven tribes living in a clan commune society. Each clan commune called "Wulileng" consisted of five to a dozen families descended from a male ancestor. The commune head was elected. In the commune, which was then the basic economic unit of the Oroqens, all production tools were communally owned. The commune members hunted together, and the game bagged was equally distributed to all families.

The introduction of iron articles and guns and the use of horses during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) raised the productive forces of the Oroqens to a higher level. This gave rise to bartering on a bigger scale and the emergence of private ownership. That brought about profound social, economic changes. Individual families quit the clan commune and became basic economic units. The clan commune had disintegrated, though members of the same clan did live or hunt together in the same area. Organized under the Qing Dynasty's "eight banner system," the Oroqens were compelled to enlist in the armed forces and send fur to the Qing court as tributes. Most soldiers sent to fight in Xinjiang, Yunnan Public China Holidays, Taiwan and other places lost their lives.

After the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911 came the rule of warlords who effected some changes in the administrative setup of the "eight banner system." Oroqen youths were dragged into "forest guerrilla units," and Oroqen hunters were forced to settle down to farm. Most of them later fled back to hunt in the forests. A few whom the warlords had made officers became landlords who hired Oroqen, Han, Manchu and Daur laborers to open up large tracts of land for crops.

The Japanese troops, who occupied northeast China in 1931, pulled down the cottages and smashed the farm implements of the remaining Oroqen farmers and drove them into the forests again. Oroqen youths were press-ganged into "forest detachments" officered by Japanese. The Japanese occupationists introduced opium smoking to ruin the health of the Oroqen people, some of whom were used in bacteria experiments. All this, coupled with incidence of epidemic diseases, had so decimated the Oroqen population that only some 1,000 of them remained at the time of the Japanese surrender in 1945.

Over a long period of time, the Oroqens had fought alongside other ethnic groups in China against Tsarist Russian and Japanese aggression to safeguard national unity.

Mt. Qingcheng is one of the birthplaces of Taoism. In the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 AD), the founder of Taoism, Tianshi (Celestial Master last minute China travel deals) Zhang Daoling once set up his pulpit here to give lectures. During the Tang Dynasty, advocates of the newly introduced Buddhism vied with the Taoists for this base, until Emperor Xuanzong allocated the mountain to the latter.

As an indigenous religion of China, the Taoist religion was initiated in the Eastern Han Dynasty by Zhang Daoling and developed ever since. It is part of Taoism in the larger sense, which is deeply inspired by the theory of Laotsu in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) and features the harmony of human and nature, the virtue of leisure and tranquility, and a positive attitude toward the occult and the metaphysical. The Taoist religion, which is concerned with the ritual worship of the Tao Student tours to China, has a profound influence upon Chinese life.

Mt. Qingcheng is a representative site of Taoist culture. Major religious sites here include the Natural Picture (a building complex immersed in Nature), the Celestial Master's Cave (Tianshidong), the Hall of the Ancestral Masters (Zushidian), Cave Facing the Sun (Chaoyangdong) and the Palace of Celestial Freshness (Shangqinggong).

Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu Island, located to the southwest of the city proper, is only about a five-minute journey by local ferry. The island has long had the name of 'above-the-sea garden' because of its variety of pretty flowers, the best of which can be viewed in the Shuzhuang Garden. The highest point on the island, the Sunlight Rockaffordable China tours, is also the symbol of Xiamen city. Just as the saying 'one who has not visited the Great Wall is not a true hero', those who have not visited the Sunlight Rock cannot claim to have truly seen Xiamen.

Possibly due to the beautiful scenery here, people living on the island have a strong liking for music, boasting the highest piano ownership rates in China. Gulangyu Island is by far the best sight of this beautiful town, with its variety of colonial buildings, pleasant winding streets and musical locals. It is the best place to be located for those visiting this part of Fujian, although it is sometimes hard to find a room, especially for those on a budget. Very few of the sights here are spoiled, and there are so many charming features, from the profusion of ancient trees, all labeled, to the variety of seafood restaurants, most containing at least a few hideous monsters from the deep.

Shuzhuang Garden

On the southern shore of Gulangyu Island is the Shuzhuang Garden Educational tours in China (Shuzhuang huayuan), named after its original owner and built around 1900. The creators of this pretty garden attempted to create an environment that integrates the Gulangyu Island feel into its design: The Chinese will say that the garden is in the sea and the sea is in the garden. The overall impression here is pleasant. The pavilions, bridges and towers do not contrast against the natural sea views and profusion of trees.

The Shuzhuang can be a great way to while away the day on this pretty and picturesque isle. The garden is full of many species of flowers, a botanist's delight, and there is also a clean, yellow sand beach that is a good way to brave the Chinese waters, although it can get a little full. Sipping a cup of tea in the garden's tea house or relaxing with a sea view under the shade of a Gulangyu tree is vacation bliss.

Oversea Chinese Museum

About 2 km south of Zhongshan Rd, the Overseas Chinese Museum China Photo Tour (Huaqiao bowuguan) is an interesting way to spend an afternoon. The museum is dedicated to the many Fujianese and others from the southeast China region who have emigrated to various parts of the globe. The people of this part of China are well known for their nomadic tendencies. Even today, with the regional rapid economic improvements, many are still looking to get out and see the world. Today, over 2.5 million overseas Chinese, in no less than 50 countries, claim to have Fujian ancestry.

Founded by the wealthy industrialist Tan Kah-kee in 1959, the collection in the museum now contains pieces donated or invested in by many of these overseas Chinese, all putting money back into their roots. The museum is divided into six sections from relics of old China to photographic and pictorial evidence of Huaqiao (overseas Chinese) exploration. The ground floor's three halls contain paintings, photos and documentation of the Fujianese life abroad, an interesting way for foreigners to see the other side of the coin. The pottery and bronzes here are of particular interest, some of the pieces dating back as far as the Shang dynasty (1600-1100 BC).

The Ganlan wood building China vacation deals is the typical storied dwelling, which distributes mostly in the mountains of minority nationalities in the southwest semi-tropical areas. Such a style has pushed the space form and space combination of storied dwelling, the support, suspension and stagger floor along the hills, and, the techniques of mortise and tenon to a very high level. It also demonstrates rich material and spiritual civilizations in combination with the unique national and folk cultures of the minority nationalities.

Standing on a slope and supported by several wooden columns, these houses look precarious, but they are actually pretty stable and safe. They usually have two to three stories with a verandah. The ground floor is served as livestock sheds or storehouse for equipments and firewood; while the second floor and above is for family living.

The legend:When ancient Chinese pioneers moved from north to hilly southern China, they suffered a lot from the beasts, reptiles, and insects in the mountain forests. First they set fire to keep beasts away from colony, but people were still often bitten by snakes and scorpions. Then an old smart leader in the tribe invented what’s shown in the pictures above: Diaojiao Lou – Stiled Building.

The traditional typical wood Educational tours in China Ganlan buildings are all set up by wood including wood framework, wood purlin, plank wall, bark tile, with tenon and mortise at the link point, without any iron nail or iron hook. The plane of the house is rectangle, while the roof looks like double-slope shape, and the first two to three levels have no walls. The households live closely along the hillside.

In the Dai nationality autonomous counties in Xishuangbanna in the southwest of Yunnan and De Hong in the west of Yunnan, there are bamboo Ganlan buildings with a kind of bamboo-wood-combined structure using large amount of mao bamboos.

Compared with the wood one, the building material of bamboo dwelling are linked mostly by coir rope and 9 rattan; its roof is called Kongming’s Hat with swallowtailed Qianmu – some kind like the Xieshan-style (Roof of the Xieshan-style is composed of two big slopes at front and back and two small slopes at both sides, with two flats in the shape of isosceles triangle also being at both sides of the roof.) four-slope roof. The Jingpo nationality, Jinuo nationality, Hani nationality and other minority nationalities in this area mostly adopt the bamboo dwelling. Their dwellings are alike in terms of the height of overhead level, whether they being paired up with the architecture materials (such as adobe, day lily, the tile top, etc.) and the worshiped totem except for The drum tower at Ma’an Village, Sanjiang County, Guangxi.

The slight differences. There are some other unique features of China Photo Tour Yunnan’s bamboo stockaded village, such as the Dais stockaded village, each of which has a well with painstaking decorations around or even with well pavilion or guardian stone-carving beast. Another example is the stockaded village gate of Hani nationality, which is always made of tree trunk and set in the entrance with fur on the cross wood and later bird carving instead. After numerous textual researches, Kenzaburo Torikoshi, the Japanese expert figured out that the traditional torii is derived from Yunnan.

In addition, according to the building origin, fundamental framework and space idea, the Diaojiao building seen in the Mount Emei area in the southwest of Sichuan, Chongqing area and Fenghuang mountainous and lake areas in the west of Hunan Province are all the specific models of storied dwelling. Dwelling in trees and dwelling in caves are both the most original modalities of Chinese traditional vernacular dwelling, which was once concluded by the ancient as “dwelling in trees in the south and caves in the north”. The historical records and archaeological studies have fully proved that the ganlan wood building was once widely adopted in the areas south of Yangtze River, most of which are areas of mountains and hills with the humid, hot and rainy climate, the ecological resource of dense woods, the production mode of paddy cultivations. In ancient times, these regions were known as Yues as a whole. The dwelling culture of Ganlan is the common feature of Yues, and, the totem, courtyard, entrance and the subdivision of structure and materials together with the unique customs of all minorities, were passed on and formed such rich residential dwelling settlements in today’s southern areas especially the southwest.

It is worth mentioning that with the growing population, declining wood resources, the popularization of architectural materials like brick and tile and some other factors, the Han nationality in the south and the minorities in the plains have increasingly farewell the Ganlan wood buildings, and progressed to many variations and new modalities, such as the water street dwelling in Zhejiang Province, the courtyard-style dwelling in Anhui Proivince, the adobe building in the south of Fujian Province, Yi Ke Yin in Kunming and so on.

Southwestern minority ethnics people are not only great architectures but also creative artists. They like to carve, shape or decorate their house into beautiful living galleries. If you are planning to make a trip to southwestern China, don’t forget to visit these wonderful diaojiaolou villages.

China can appear daunting for the first time traveler. At first glance, the highways, skyscrapers, and streets lined with various shops and restaurants invoke recognizable home comforts, but the cultural and linguistic differences can catch you off guard affordable China tours. we has put together these ‘survival’ tips that will help to prepare you for a smooth-sailing first time experience in China.

Food & drink
One of the highlights of any China trip will undoubtedly be the food. Though WildChina only takes clients to top restaurants throughout our journeys, if you are seeking a taste of Chinese local life and authenticity, street food vendors and small local restaurants are a popular stop, even if tried only once. Bear in mind: food from these vendors may look, smell and taste delicious, but western stomachs may not be so hasty to agree. We would recommend bringing some medications from home to sooth an upset stomach, just in case.

In China, tap water is not safe to drink. Bottled water is provided throughout our journeys Educational tours in China, both in the hotels and our own vehicles. Water is also widely available from shops, restaurants, and street vendors.

There is a tendency for drinks to be served hot in China. Water, milk and even beer are commonly enjoyed warm! If you like cold drinks, try adding bing (ice) before the name of your drink when ordering. Helpful words: bing shui (cold water) bing piju (cold beer).

Restrooms
Outside the comfort of 5-star hotels and restaurants, you are more than likely to encounter a Chinese squat toilet, which, for no prizes, involves a hole in the floor that you squat over. Squat toilets can be found in local bars, restaurants, and at many attractions. At first glance you might not like these toilets, but next to the Western sit-down toilets, they can be seen as a more hygienic experience because you don’t have to touch anything in a squat toilet. Note: Toilet paper and hand soap are not always provided in toilets, so always have some tissues and hand sanitizer handy.

Cash vs. Card
While major shopping malls, restaurants and hotels accept foreign credit/bank cards, smaller establishments and stalls China tour videos will prefer cash. Actually, China is traditionally a cash society so it is advisable to ensure there is always a comfortable amount of cash on hand for drinks, snacks, and small souvenirs.

VPN

Certain websites and social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Google (including Gmail) are blocked in China. If you need to access any of these during your trip, you will need to set up a virtual private network (VPN). VPNs redirect Internet connection to allow access to blocked sites. They are easy to set up and can be downloaded from the web and app stores for free or for a small price.

Beijing’s rival, Shanghai travel to Shanghai, is known for three things: the breathtaking Bund, mouthwatering street food, and…more food. WE provides some recommendations for fantastic eateries to check out while in the “Paris of the Orient” to dine on some of Shanghai’s finest cuisine without putting a hole in your wallet:

Breakfast – Yang’s Fried Dumpling (小扬生煎) (10~20 元/person)

What better way to energize for a long day exploring the streets of Shanghai than with a hearty plate of baozi (生煎包)? There is no better place to dine on this Southern Chinese specialty than at Yang’s Fried Dumpling. Wherever you may be, chances are you will find a joint of this chain somewhere in your vicinity. Similar to an American diner, this restaurant has been around for the past 18 years, serving up some of Shanghai’s best fried dumplings. Although they offer a range of soups and other small bites, the lines of hungry eaters diligently waiting outside are all because of its baozi, which hands down, is some of the best fried dumplings you will ever try. The slightly sweet meat filling is a fantastic complement to the partially crunchy, partially chewy doughy outer cover. Dipped in some vinegar, these small doughy treats are little pieces of heaven inside your mouth. Don’t be surprised if these miniature dough balls of meaty goodness start to disappear right before your eyes. We secretly hope that Yang’s Fried Dumpling will soon open up a branch in Beijing. Let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Lunch – Kakatei (100~250 元/person)

For lunch, mix things up by indulging in some of the best teppanyaki in town. Kakatei serves some of the finest Japanese specialties and although these scrumptious dishes along with the restaurant’s simple, yet elegant ambiance does come with a hefty price tag, Kakatei offers lunch set specials at reasonable pricess, ranging from 80 to 200 kuai per person. We recommend you try the teppanyaki sets, which include a variety of cuisine, including sashimi, steak, fish, and vegetables. The premium seafood tastes fresh and the red meat is soft and velvety, as each piece melts inside your mouth. Trust us when we say that this will be some of the best teppanyaki you will ever try Holidays in China!

Dinner - Blue Heart Restaurant (兰心餐厅)(50~80 元/person)

Shanghai cuisine is famous for its particularly sweet and savory dishes. Lan Xin Restaurant, a favorite amongst locals, is a gem hidden within Shanghai’s alleyways. Started by an elderly couple, walking into this restaurant, which consists solely of five tables, will make you feel as though you have been transported to your grandmother’s home. The owner herself comes out to take your order and the close-knit, unadorned interior only enhances its overall charm. The 红烧肉(braised pork in soy sauce) slowly melts inside your mouth as all of its intense flavors envelop your taste buds, while the (stir-fried shrimp) adds a nice crunchy contrast to the buttery pork. For the adventurous food lover, we recommend the 炒猪肝 (fried pork liver with soy sauce Shanghai Tourist Attractions), which with its perfect blend of savory and sweet will not make you regret taking a ride on the wild side. Just a heads up – make sure you arrive right at five, because chances are, the line will be out the door!

Drinks – Aura at the Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai Pudong (100 元/person)

When in Shanghai, you have to see the Bund at night, especially with its breathtaking lights. If you are in the? mood for a drink following a long day filled with adventure, head to Aura, located on the 52nd floor of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pudong. Not only do you get a front-seat view of the mesmerizing cityscape across the Huangpu River, but you also get to enjoy a fantastic drink as well. This bar is elegant sophistication at its finest and amongst its extensive list of delicious cocktails, we recommend the fruity Mango Mojito, which actually tastes like a mango smoothie turned into a fancy drink. What better way to end your night?
